BMW, Audi and a few others all had automated, single clutch manuals in their cars back in the 00s. They didn't last long because auto manufacturers realized that DCTs work much better than automating a typical automotive manual transmission.

On the other hand, motorcycle transmissions are a much better application for this automation and it's cheaper and lighter than a DCT. Personally, I don't see the issue. If you don't like it, don't buy it.

My Depression-era father never understood my interest in manual transmissions. For him, someone born in 1917, shifting gears wasn't something that made his "socks go up and down" or expressed his manhood.

For me, a manual shift scheme allows ME to decide when the shift point is. Automatic transmissions are fine, but...imperfect. For those who don't mind living in a "matrix" world, where virtual steak tastes the same as the real thing, but isn't...automatic everything probably works. The future probably will be comprised entirely of simulacrums, so if that's our destiny, it "is what it is". Not attractive to me, though.
