there will always be theft as there will always be a percentage of humankind that feel they are above the law

the article does not say how many thefts using high tech scanning equipment took place

my worry is that the more secure the vehicles become, then the more likely we will see violent crimes where the criminals mug people in car parks to get the remote control or break into homes to find the remote.

As vehicles become more technical then there will always be a demand for stolen spares. If you look at previous reports, most of the high value vehicles end up in shipping containers at ports like Felixstowe and head off to South America, the Middle East or states of the former USSR.

Also, the insurance industry needs to clean up their act. They sell off cars that are economic write offs and the identity of these cars is transferred to stolen vehicles.
