New York City will be adopting congestion pricing, the scheme where vehicle owners pay to enter parts of the city, similar to what is now being done in London. London gives a break to motorcycles and scooters, but I wouldn't bet that cities in the U.S. would do the same. They are always looking for a way to generate more income to feed their unending ideas on how to spend it. I have no doubt that congestion pricing will be adopted by other cities in "The Land of the Free". Here is the story:

You would expect to pay the same for a parking space or hotel room in South Bumpkis as in Paris or Berlin? Better yet, do you expect to pay the same for admission ticket to a High School football game and you would a Raiders or 49ers game?

User/access fees. They're zero if you don't use the service or access the area.

Well, congestion fee would be charged on top of all of the other things you pay when in a city.

In my case, I have to drive through San Francisco to visit my daughter in Marin County, which requires crossing the Golden Gate Bridge and paying $7 (which goes up 25 cents every July) on the way back and then having to drive through SF again to get home. I don't have a choice other than riding through the city in order to get anywhere north of the town. What the San Francisco politicians want is to keep everyone out of the city unless they already live there. They have said that they want all visitors, including the hundreds of thousands of daytime workers to ride public transportation, walk or, or pedal a bicycle, and have said that they do not anyone to drive a private vehicle into town. Not very practical when public transportation does not go where many people live.

It would be possible for me to use a series of buses to get to Marin County, but it literately would take over 6 hours (and several miles of walking as the nearest bus stop is 3 miles away from my home) to travel the 37 miles to visit my family and another 6 hours of traveling to return home. It takes one hour to ride my motorcycle there - in spite of having to endure congestion in San Francisco.

Surely Richards grammar is correct when used with the word "visit".
If he wishes to speak to her, other than in the flesh, he can "choose" from a variety of media.

Ironically there is an item on the BBC today which implies that congestion is on the increase despite schemes to improve things.

Perhaps permits need to be introduced to prove that your journey is necessary.
People visiting family or friends or just enjoying a ride out will be shot.

Whenever I visit my daughter I always ride my Zero as it handles the heavy stop-and-go traffic along San Francisco's 19th Avenue (the route through town) much easier than does a bike with a manual transmission. Unfortunately, I can think of nowhere in California where motorcycles of any type, electric or otherwise, get a discount on any transportation or parking fees. The single exception is when riding in freeway HOV lanes. And we only get that benefit because it is a Federal regulation for highways built with national gas taxes. Otherwise motorcycle riders pay the same fees as auto owners, even though we have a very minor impact on the wear and tear of bridges and highways, compared with automobiles and trucks.

Regarding family visits, doing so via a telephone call is not the same as actually visiting in person.

HOV= High Occupancy Vehicle. Essentially carpooling lanes. Somewhat paradoxically, "high occupancy" is usually defined as more than one....
