I have seen clip-on windshield wind deflectors talked about a number of times over they years. I would estimate that about 50% of the people that bought them liked them and 50% thought they were useless. It seems like they might be a good idea, but I wasn't willing to take the chance of giving one a try by purchasing something like the one sold by Wunderlich for $220 (!). Then I did a little trolling of Amazon and found this one for only $26, including shipping from Hong Kong (which only took 2 weeks). At that price it was worth a try:

I installed it on the BMW "touring" windshield of my 2009 F650GS, which is not the best windshield for fitment of this deflector, due to its sharply raked back shape. And I currently have the stock windshield installed on my RS, which has the round safety molding at the top of the screen that precludes installation of the deflector on that screen. Anyway, attached are some photos of the $26 clip-on Chinese wind deflector mounted to the windshield of my F650GS so that you can get an idea what it looks like and how it fits on a windscreen. It would fit a lot better on a more vertical windshield, as the deflector can tilt back quite a bit, but is very limited in its ability to be tilted forward so as to stand more vertically due to its design.

I rode around the neighborhood and on the freeway today to try it out. It moved the air flow from the chin area of my helmet to the forehead. About what I would have expected, considering the additional height. Not much difference in the noise level, but I am sure that it would help to keep bugs off of my helmet face shield, compared with the naked windshield. The quality of the wind deflector seems quite good. Certainly better than I would have expected of a cheap Chinese knockoff.

I am sure that the deflector would work better on a more upright windshield where its angle adjustment would be more useful. The deflector angle can be adjusted by pulling up the lever on the left side of the device, moving the deflector to the angle that you want and then pushing the lever back down again to lock it in place. Because of the angle of the windshield on my F650GS, the deflector is set as far forward as possible, which just happens to be in line with the windshield's angle. Tilting it further backwards would make it lie almost flat on this windshield and that would do little to improve the wind flow.
