I agree. I have both and the Mudsling does a lot more to keep debris off of the shock than the hugger does keeping debris off of both the shock and the passenger. If you only want to get one, get the Mudsling - IMHO As far as I am concerned the hugger is just there for looks.

And I wish I could get one of those NZ rear fenders, but my dealer insists that they can not be sold in the U.S. So I made my own using a cheap rubber auto mudflap set that I bought at the local auto accessory store. Seems to work as well as anything for keeping water spray off of the back of the bike.

Still, who knew that a decent fender would be illegal to sell in the U.S.? No problem selling loud mufflers in most areas of America, though.

If you chose just one, go for the Mudsling, protecting your rear suspension and swinging arm is the priority. Adding the hugger (as well) does help reduce but certainly not eliminate mud splashed to the rear end / pillion , top box. I have both fitted.
