General topics » Managed to get out on the bike today

I was asked to help out with the electrics on a new hand sanitizer bottling plant near to my old firm so took the opportunity to get out on the RS and enjoy the quiet roads.
Only three or four vehicles on the road this morning but reasonably busy on the way home. Beautiful day and really nice to get the bike out after what seems a long time.
We managed to get the plant running after the usual teething problems and the firm will be supplying schools and workplaces with the cleanser.
I'm hoping some adjustments will be needed so I can have a ride out next week.

The weather here in the Fens is glorious and what I would give for a nice 400 mile day today

I'd love to be able to get out for a ride. The weather in central Maryland has been perfect. Everything is blooming. I'm thankful that I'm able to work from home but I really miss the ride to and from. 20 miles of back roads in each direction.

We are working from home via remote desktop, however my office PC hung yesterday.

I stay 25 miles away (from Glasgow), so went in on the RS as I can park right at the door.

It was great just to get out on 2 wheels, even for a short run.

A pal has said that he made an order at three different screwfix shops so he would have an excuse to do a loop (he could prove where he was going if stopped). Says he didn't get stopped, though had pockets full of screws and drill bits when he got home.

Another three weeks lockdown announced today, so hoping my PC crashes again, on a sunny day, in a week or so.

Another small ride today to a job, decided to top up tank 50% of course the fuel station meant i would have to go long way round to home, if the fuel was double what i normally pay i still would have travelled for it, have to sort your priorities.

Glad to hear some of y'all are getting out and about. I rode in to the office today. Beautiful weather here in central NC. In the last week or so they have announced tighter restrictions and the impending lifting of restrictions here. I'm not sure how things are in MD, but we don't have any random road stops. You don't need any documentation to travel. If you are stopped here, you can just say you are going to the grocery store, or whatever. Sounds like things are much more restrictive in the UK. I'm really glad some old white guys had some good ideas about freedom 250 years ago or so. Stay safe and stay sane.

Went to check and make some adjustments to the hand sanitizer plant, we installed a couple of weeks, ago whilst the staff had the day off.
Beautiful day in East Yorkshire and after a couple of hours all was done,
Noticed something strange when I got home. It's a 25 mile round trip, but when I got home the trip meter read 72 miles.
Also the fuel gauge might need looking at- seems to be reading low.............

Tried to ride the 23 km to the office today. Went the back way (awful, winding road!!!) to make sure I stayed away from people.
Just before I got there, realised I must have left something at home.
Fortunately I was right at the end of the twisty section and there was room to turn around.
Annoyingly, just as I got home I realised that I hadn't forgotten anything after all. I turned around again and headed back to the office.

The strange and worrying thing is that this pattern repeated itself 4 times.
Worse was when I realised that I didn't need to go to the office at all!!!

I just wasted 3 1/2 hours of my day, and had done no work at all!! 😛😛😛😛

My job is considered essential, so I am still going to and from work 5 days a week. I tried to ride as frequently as possible. I've heard that that little bug can travel up to 140 kmph, so I make sure to keep just a little bit ahead of him the whole way.

We had a high temp of 40F with snow flurries. I was too chicken to even venture to the garage to do woodworking....

Did a couple hundred miles yesterday on the way to the office to make sure the bike starts, get a more rapid charge on the Nav V than I can on the computer, and to see if the Dunlops felt any better deep in the corners after some time on the track in early March - decided the problem is again the wear pattern with the soft, well-used top of the shoulder now concave, but the less-used bottom of the shoulder remaining convex. Felt better if I compressed it with a little speed.... I'm of the philosophy, I should be good enough to adapt, so I'm not ready to get rid of them yet. (Someday, I hope to well-rounded like Mr. and Mrs. Vrooom, who simply needs the 3 Rs - "round, rubber, and rebate" - to leave the rest of us in the dust.)

Saw a lot of quiet back roads and some gravel. The main roads such MO 94 through Augusta was jammed with Harleys, sport bikes, SUVs, and minvans - 35 mph in a 55 mph area. Parking lots for nature areas and the Katy Trail spilled vehicles out onto the road. Not a lot of social distancing seen at picnic tables and outside seating at bars.

Everyone take care - with the nice weather and a little cabin fever, another (hopefully minor) surge in SARS-CoV-2 infections looks likely in a few weeks.

A lot of people are going to be infected in the next 3 y, but with a little care, it does not need to be us.

My wife ran out of her moisturizer that she get from a mom and pop shop in Northern VA. I volunteered to ride down and get it. When I left Sykesville it was mostly sunny and 50 degrees. By the time I got back it was sunny and 61. Just a beautiful day for a ride. The little town the vendor lives in is Lovettsville, VA. It's just over the MD/VA border with lots of back country roads to get there. The woman met me at the community center. I handed her payment and she handed me a bag with my wife's purchase. I'm sure you could argue it wasn't a necessary trip. I just wouldn't take that up with the misses. She was happy and I was happy I got close to 130 miles in.

I agree with Ray B. Every nature area I rode through was packed. Particularly the Liberty watershed. I saw plenty of vehicles there but the drivers must have all been down by the water because I didn't see them. In some ways it's hard to believe there's anything wrong. Yesterday seemed like a normal day with folks out enjoying the beautiful Spring weather. Of course, the 6:00 news shocks you right back to reality.
