Hi Guys just about to pull the trigger but have a couple of questions about the 1200RS

I have a 2017 RT LE with all the bits that I fitted with a Brand new Akrapovic exhaust only 3 weeks ago and dont want to let ii go with the RT
will this fit on the RS im sure ive seen it done but it may have been on a GS just not sure and dont really want to go down the ebay route to sell this one and buy another for the RS

also does the RT top box 2017 fit the RS 2018 models as the top box that ive seen for the RS is a bit small for me

I'm not sure but i would have thought the Acro would just need a new link pipe.

If your R1200RT Akra has an exhaust strap attaching it to the footpeg you might be ok but my guess is that it has a welded bracket . In which was you'll be very lucky if that relationship is the same on the RS. Matter of fact I'll bet its not other wise the RT and RS would share an OE exhaust.

Seems to me you're between 2 stools - you want the sexy RS styling but want the RT luggage capacity - which would ruin the styling . You're going to have to decide cos it ain't possible ... that why them buggers in Berlin make so many different models - good luck

I'm in the same boat with the top box. I'm considering buying a Givi adapter plate and fitting a V47 box all of which can be done for less than than the price of the tiny BMW top box. Allows you to store two lids and is far more practical.

Not sure the bike looks as good with just the plate on as standard. I do think the small BMW box looks like it belongs on a scooter.

That top box looks like a very clever idea, does it fit the standard bmw rack on the 1250rs, as presently use a soft bag on my rack as never found an ideal size top box, so have a selection of bags to strap on depending on what’s required. Is the supplier local to you?

You have to have the optional rack on the RS which does not come as standard, so you should be OK. You can then buy a steel adaptor plate from Shad which bolts on to the BMW rack. The top boxes comes with a plastic mounting plate which bolts to the steel adaptor plate. This is a bit ugly when the top box is not mounted, so I've now replaced mine with an alloy version which Shad do.

There are two versions of this topbox, the SH58X, the version with a choice of different coloured plastic top panels which I used to have, and the SH59X which I now have. The SH59X has an aluminium top cover matching the aluminium panels on my SH35 panniers, though the platinum colour plastic top cover on the SH58X is also a pretty good match to the panniers. They also do some slightly fatter panniers, model SH36, which unlike the SH35 can fit a full face helmet.

As for suppliers, if you just put SH58X or SH59X into Google you will find lots of suppliers. The cheapest are generally in Europe, like Motardin. I've bought stuff from them and a Polish supplier with no problems, and saved quite a bit.

I didn't have a top box on my CX500, but funnily enough I bought some BMW badged Krauser panniers for it!

If I can track down where I bought my Shad stuff I will PM you some links.

I really don't like weight outside the wheelbase so I have gone with Monolock boxes where possible. The E450 that was on my FJR1300 is now on the F800GT but I cannot get a monolock plate to fit the rack on the RS so I have had to go with a E460 bought lightly used.

Why do pannier and topbox manufacturers never quote the weight of their product? There is massive difference between the E450 and E460. Some people will say Monolocks are flimsy. Some are. My E450 is still going strong after 11 years and I would love to have put a new one on the RS.

Whilst posting I am going to have grumble about my luggage rack. I rang Motorworks to ask their prices and what was needed new (It seems to come in three bits which is very confusing) and they looked to see if they were breaking a bike and might have something that would save me a few pounds. While I was waiting for a return phone call I spotted a decent looking rack assembly off an R1200R "Item location; York" and made an offer which was accepted. I paid top whack for it because I could be sure all the bits were included and there would be no waiting with parts "on order". So ordered 29.06.20 and due Mon-Wednesday this week7th-9th. It has not arrived and I have been cross-questioning the seller and getting monosyllabic replies about when posted which courier etc, etc. It turns out that the rack has yet to leave Poland and is still in transit from there!! Bloody cheek! He is going to get negative feedback once I have the rack in my possession. I would have made a much lower offer had I realised to factor in the risk. I should add that he gave me a parcel number without telling me the carrier. I tracked it down to Parcel Force. Assuming it is actually my rack it is tracking as exported but not yet arrived in the UK. Considering it left Warsaw on Friday it must be coming by bicycle!!
