It didn't get me a girl

Well I had a Matchless G2 when I was 19, which I rebuilt (ruined? it had more gears when I started than when I finished) in my parents garage. My long suffering girlfriend at the time handed me spanners and helped me respray all the black bits.

But I did get the girl! Because despite that experience we are still together some 43 years later! How often she must regret not realising what she was getting into all those years ago!

The Matchless, by the way, was the only mechanical contraption I have EVER made a profit on! 😁

i passed my test in 1966 on a Yamaha yl1 100cc twin, then bought a Vincent 500 Comet C (LLK 118) 1951. burgess silencer. on my way home on a night my girlfriend ( now wife) could hear me 3 miles away climbing a hill near my home put it in part exchange against a new Yamaha yds5e

The YDS5 wasn’t bad, though. First bike I ever had with an electric starter: ironic, because it was also the easiest-starting bike I ever had!
