I usually read all threads on this forum ( even the jokes!), but this thread is now becoming a much bigger bore that the newly introduced adverts!

He has a point to an extant. Cookies and personalized information about our physical hardware, sessions, addresses, location, logins, browsing habits etc. being collected, exchanged over the internet and aggregated in a repository for advertisers. Though as has been pointed out, it's probably a legitimate framework of usage, reasons, and appropriate protections of the repository (encrypted on the way back and forth, and encrypted and secured and anonymized for its intended usage for advertisers).

I agree that it's not a big target for organized hacking. To actually hack into private networks, then hack cryptograms and break open the information is massive computing (GPU farms) power and time. A more likely, though still extremely far-fetched scenario would be that an inside admin somehow saw an opportunity to trade or sell the information. Unlikely. It's probably so generic, mundane and anonymized, it isn't worth anybody's time.

I really don't have the big picture of what is going here but appreciate the fact that I have thus far enjoyed no annoying ads on this site (after agreeing to conditions).
My confusion is why the "owner" of this site, namely Holger, has not communicated what is going on by means of this site.
I really do appreciate not having ads, which is something of a beautiful new experience in this day and age, especially since I understand that Holger has sponsored an ad free site (thus far) at his own expense, and thanks to him for this.
Holger, if you are listening, thank you, and please give us some public clarification.

we are using a .com web address which comes into the premium rates in Tier 3 of 4, costing nearly 14 euros a month - this should also give an ad free experience

then there is the cost of owning the domain on top of that

there seems to be an incongruence here - if holger has dropped the subscription level, how come we can still use the .com domain? I suspect something has gone wrong with the Xobor host, but we have no way of contacting customer support without holger's input.

I was a bit wary when the cookies thing popped up as I'd had a few issues with possible scammers. So to see it in German was cocerning, so I left it for a few days before rejecting certain cookie choises . So far no pop-up ad. 👍
As said. It cost money to run the site so thanks for keeping it going 👍
